Purpose

I have to split this sequence
For another, I reject accountability
Their tears bear witness to my gaze

A smoldering in my core, swelling in my throat
Cutting myself on the fragments of pain I’ve caused
Drowning in understanding of my worst fears

I’ve injured another human being
Hands created to mend
Have only furthered anguish

Our dispositions can be so damaging
Our beings bound together without permission
Yet a blessing they continue to be

To become one body was the aim
From one body we were made
Communion with one another the only way
